welcome to the First GEo Certified tournament in Lpga history

In 2019, the inaugural Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational earned several "firsts" in the world of the LPGA. In addition to becoming the first LPGA Tour event in an inaugural year to earn the Gold Driver Award for overall best tournament, the event became the first-ever GEO Certified LPGA event.

What does it mean to become GEO Certified? The Scotland-based GEO Foundation offers golf's most comprehensive and widely regarded sustainability distinction. Ahead of the 2019 Dow GLBI, the team at Dow, Octagon, and several sustainability partners worked with the GEO Foundation to outline a 5-year sustainability plan, starting off year 1 with a variety of sustainability initiatives:

While a key component of the sustainability plan includes minimizing and offsetting the environmental impact, the overall picture includes much more. Did the tournament have a positive economic impact for the Great Lakes Bay Region? Was there support for local nonprofit agencies? Can we become a blueprint and set an example for other sports tournaments to follow? Yes, yes, and yes.

How can you help us achieve even better sustainability in future Dow GLBI tournaments? Consider your ticket to the tournament an agreement to help us leave the course in better shape than when we started. Utilize the recycling and trash bins, help us reduce plastic waste by using the reusable water bottles and filling stations, consider riding a bike to the event, and support local businesses and restaurants with your wallet during tournament week and beyond.

Dow is committed to promoting sustainability in sports, and we can all do our part for a better golf tournament, a better Great Lakes Bay Region, and a better world.
