Jutanugarn and Korda sisters team up at Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational

SCG partners with inaugural event to announce team commitments

MIDLAND, Mich. (June 24, 2019) – The Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational is a family-friendly event for spectators, but it’s panning out to be so on the course, as well. The Jutanugarn and Korda sisters will team up to compete at the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational, an inaugural event taking place July 15-20 at Midland Country Club. The first-of-its-kind LPGA tournament will feature a 72-hole, stroke play team format, and SCG has teamed up with the event as the official sponsor of team commitments to unveil player pairings.

The winner of the 2018 Rolex Player of the Year, the Vare Trophy, the Money Title, the Race to the CME Globe and the Rolex ANNIKA Award, Ariya Jutanugarn, will tee it up with her sister, Moriya, at the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational this summer.

“I think me and my sister are going to be good for each other because we know each other’s game really well,” said Ariya Jutanugarn, two-time major winner with 10 LPGA Tour victories. “The alternate shot format makes me want to play with my sister because if I miss the shot I won’t feel bad for her.”

As for Moriya Jutanugarn, she won her first LPGA Tour victory in 2018 at the HUGEL-JTBC LA Open. Moriya was also the 2013 Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year and became the first female to win the British Junior Open in 2008. What started with mom and dad’s purchase of a golf shop in Thailand will come full-circle as the sister-sister duo teams up to claim the title of the inaugural Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational this July.

Another sister team committed to the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational field is the Kordas, who have claimed a combined six Tour victories. Jessica, who has been on the LPGA Tour since 2011, welcomed her younger sibling to the circuit in 2017.

“I’m so proud of her. I feel like I’m more excited for her than for me,” Jessica told the LPGA about Nelly’s first start as a rookie. “Every day I always want her to beat me because, as kids growing up and me being much older than her, I felt like she would never really beat me. She might beat me in like a putting contest or a chipping contest but never actually on a golf course, so for her to do it in the Bahamas first week out, I was like finally, yes!”

Scrolling through Jessica and Nelly Korda’s social feeds, it’s obvious the sisters have more in common than their last name. It’s also the platform the sister utilize to share big news with their followers. Jessica extended an invitation to team up at the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational on Instagram to her younger sister, Nelly, and other LPGA players are getting in on the action and inviting their playing partners to team up on social media platforms:
