Elayna Bowser and Chaithra Katamneni Earn Sponsor Exemptions to the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational

What: Chaithra Katamneni from Coppell, Texas and Elayna Bowser from Dearborn, Michigan claimed the title of the Dow GLBI amateur qualifier tournament to earn sponsor exemptions to the inaugural LPGA Tour team event, the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational. The amateur tournament, a 36-hole qualifier provided the opportunity for female amateurs with a verified USGA handicap of 2 or better to compete for a sponsor team exemption in the 2019 Dow GLBI. The format of the amateur tournament was 36 holes: 18 alternate shot and 18 four-ball with the pair scoring a 71 in alternate shot and a 67 on the Fourball.

Why: Chaitra Katamneni and Elayna Bowser, a pair that has only met twice, have teamed up as a formidable force, will join NCAA standouts Maria Fassi and Jennifer Kupcho as the sponsor exemptions to tee it up at the 2019 Dow GLBI from July 15-20 at Midland Country Club. The 72-hole, stroke-play tournament will feature 72 two-player teams competing in both foursomes and four-ball with a $2 million purse.

Who: The Dow GLBI amateur qualifying tournament was created to provide an opportunity for deserving amateurs to earn a sponsor exemption into the new official LPGA Tour event. The format of the week-long Dow GLBI is unlike any other LPGA Tour event, and will feature more than golf - Eat Great, a two-day food festival featuring restaurants and breweries throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region, an official LPGA Tour Pro-Am Tournament, and STEM in Sports youth-related programming and leadership events. This inclusive event will offer free daily youth opportunities, affordable ticket prices, and free admission for kids 17 and under as well as past and present Military personnel.
