Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational announces final field

SCG partners with inaugural event to announce team commitments

MIDLAND, Mich. (July 10, 2019) – The final field for the inaugural 2019 Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational (Dow GLBI) taking place July 15-20 at Midland Country Club was announced today.

“We’ve experienced so much passion and support from the Great Lakes Bay Region in the last year and we’re proud to be teaming up with this community to bring the innovative tournament to life,” said Chris Chandler, executive director of the Dow GLBI. “We couldn’t be more excited about the strength of this year’s final field and we’re thrilled the players are enthusiastic about participating in the first-of-its-kind team event.”

The 2019 field will feature eight of the Top 10 players on the 2019 Race to the CME Globe Points Standing, as well as many noteworthy LPGA Tour players who will form formidable teams, including:

  • Team USA’s Solheim Cup undefeated pairing, Cristie Kerr and Lexi Thompson

  • Captain and vice-captain for Team Europe’s Solheim Cup squad, Catriona Matthew and Suzann Pettersen

  • Rolex World No. 2 and 4 team pairing, Jin Young Ko and Minjee Lee

  • Team with 18 combined LPGA Tour victories, Lydia Ko and In Gee Chun

  • Augusta National Women’s Amateur first and second place finishers, Jennifer Kupcho and Maria Fassi

  • Rolex World No. 9 and 23 with 11 combined LPGA Tour victories, sisters Ariya and Moriya Jutanugarn

  • Rolex World No. 10 and 15 with 7 combined LPGA Tour victories and self-proclaimed #teamJelly, sisters Nelly and Jessica Korda

  • Canadian-duo who represented their country in the 2016 Rio Olympics and self-proclaimed #TeamCanada, Brooke Henderson and Alena Sharp

There have also been additional teammate invitations extended on players’ social media platforms, including Paula Creamer’s promposal to Morgan Pressel in a public invitation at the 17th hole of the Walmart NW Arkansas. Pressel was videotaped accepting the offer as she walked to the green.

The 2019 Dow GLBI will host a field of 142 of the world’s best female golfers for a 72-hole, stroke play team format featuring 71 teams competing in alternating rounds of foursomes (alternate shot) and four-ball (best ball) competition for a $2 million purse. After 36 holes, the field will be a cut to the low 35 teams and any ties for 35th. In the event of a tie after 72 holes, the champions will be determined by a hole-by-hole playoff using the foursomes format. Each winner will receive the standard two-year winner’s exemption on the LPGA Priority List, as well as a one-year exemption into three major championships: ANA Inspiration, KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and The Evian Championship.
